About This Site

Top New Baby Gear is written for new and expecting parents who want straight answers about the gear that actually helps in the first year. We cover five categories in depth: sleep and soothing, feeding and nursing comfort, strollers for errands and travel, bath time, and video baby monitors. Every article is written from real day-to-day use in a busy house, with the trade-offs left in.

Baby Safety

Nothing on this site is medical advice. Talk to your pediatrician about your baby's sleep, feeding, growth and any health concern, and call your doctor or emergency services right away if something seems wrong.

Follow safe sleep basics every time: baby on their back, on a firm, flat surface made for infant sleep, with no pillows, blankets, bumpers, toys or positioners in the sleep space. A nursing pillow is for awake, supervised feeding only, never for sleep. Keep sound machines at a moderate volume and well away from the crib, and keep every cord, including baby monitor and night light cables, at least three feet from the crib and out of reach.

Never leave a baby unattended in the bath, even for a moment, and check the water temperature before every bath. Use stroller harnesses and brakes every time, never hang heavy bags from the handlebar, and keep fingers clear when folding. A baby monitor is a convenience, not a substitute for supervision. Always read the manufacturer's instructions, age and weight limits, and check for recalls at cpsc.gov.
